  • I literally feel like I've grown up at this mall. I've been with it through the Loblaws, Berry Hill Farm, Rainbow Cinemas days (who could beat $4.25 for a movie ticket!) .. I went here on my first "date" at 12 years old, used to hang out at the old foodcourt after school and even hunted for my prom dress here. The mall had a complete facelift a few years ago. At the time, it was a mess - stores were constantly being moved around and it was impossible to find anything you were looking for. However, things seem to have settled down and Fairview Mall has been left with a much more modern look and upscale store offerings. I think it's probably most comparable to a smaller version of Yorkdale without all the flagship stores. However, in a weird way, I completely agree with Janna S. - it is somewhat like "putting lipstick on a pig" (what a great analogy!). The mall just does not fit with its surroundings and the population that frequent it. The new food court looks very nice but has what you might expect at just about any food court - the requisite McDonalds, Manchu Wok, Bourbon etc. If you want to eat at a sit-down restaurant, there is a Moxie's, Spring Rolls and St. Louis Bar & Grill all located on the Sheppard side of the mall nearest to the subway entrance. Oh, there's also the Michel's Baguette - yay for their signature almond chocolate croissant :D There are some pros like the brand spankin' new Famous Players ($12 for a ticket .. sigh), the Shoppers Drug Mart and the large SportChek but most of the stores have limited selection and I often have to reserve pieces at other locations to get my size. Now I'm just rooting for a Chapters or Indigo as well and I'll be satisfied :) I'll probably always be a fan of the mall just because I've been a lifelong FV-er but I wouldn't go there expecting anything outstanding.
