  • I'm reluctantly leaving 3 stars instead of 4 because Gabi is amazing and tries to run her business likewise. I have great respect for her, and I loved the classes I was able to attend taught by her. To start, most of the pilates classes are fairly up to par and do offer a great workout. Most of the instructors are also fairly knowledable, at least enough to teach a good class. Some of the classes tend to be a little over crowded, but that was rarely a major issue. The added body heat just increased the already hot temperature in the room. I wouldn't, however, recommend this place to my friends based solely on my experiences the last few months that I attended. Although there is no debate that you will receive fairly good instruction with most classes, I feel that anymore, the same is offered at many places around town. For awhile, I went mostly to evening classes, but due to my work schedule changing, I started having to go to morning classes. Unfortunately for me, it was always classes taught by one instructor, Lisa, that, let's say, was LESS than positive, on a good day. On a bad day, a down right b!@#$ with the worst energy in the room, which is somewhat comical, because she regularly lectured the room about the importance of positive energy. She was pretentious, condescending, and unhelpful to say the least. I was able to brush it off for awhile and just get through my workout, but, the straw that broke the camel's back was when I brought in a friend (who purchased 10 classes in advance) and the instructor was, on a negative rampage like never before. To start, we informed her that my friend was new to pilates altogether and would need modifications due to severe knee issues. She agreed at first but once class started, did anything but help my friend with any modifications. She actually went as far as to ridicule her for not going fast enough. Trying my best to be supportive, seeing that my friend was really really struggling, almost to the point of worry, I told her to slow down, breath, sit down if she needed, and tried to offer any encouragement I could (something that was absolutely lacking from the instructor). In my attempts to make sure my friend wasn't going to keel over, the instructor yelled at me for "talking," as if I was having a full on conversation or something, which was not even close to that. I was nearly whispering, and anything I said was brief, as I was out of breath myself. There's no way I could carry on a full conversation even if I wanted to. Fast forward to the end of class, I left during the meditation because I was so pissed, but I waited in the lobby for the instructor and my friend who had rushed to the restroom. I confronted the instructor concerning her lack of compassion for my friend who was very clearly struggling badly, whom she also neglected to offer modifications for, AND, who (as mentioned at the beginning of class) was brand new to this modality. With a very nonchalant and uncaring response, she dismissed all of my concerns only to focus on the few times that I whispered during class, stating that there is NO talking, as it is disruptive. Nevermind that I had been in this lady's class so many other times before, she knew this was not the norm for me, AND, NONE of what I said was disruptive. Needless to say, since her time slot was the only one I was available for, I was forced to pay the $150 to cancel my membership. I still had about 4 months to go on my agreed contract, which made Gabi lose about another $160 on my behalf. My friend didn't use the remaining 9 of her pre-paids because of her treatment by Lisa. As I said before, there are TOO many other studios in town who are more than willing to be helpful and positive regardless of what may be irking them that morning. To this instructor, leave your personal crap at the door. (I also witnessed on more than one occassion, her talking badly, gossiping, about other students to other instructors AND students. She does so right out in the front lobby) These classes cost too much to put up with that kind of behavior. I will say though for sure, if you go here and your time allows to attend Gabi's classes, please do. She is amazing. I only wish I was able to attend hers everytime. I wouldn't have cancelled if that were the case. I feel it's so important to employ instructors who are not only passionate about their art but also embody the proper attitude and mentality. Unfortunately, I did not find that in all of the instructors here.
