| - I've been to three classes so far and feel like I can write a solid review.
I've been doing spin at The Village where I'm a member for the past year. So, I'm not a newbie to spin but I've had periods where I would go 2 to 3 times a week and other times where I might go 2 months without a class. In deciding whether to drop my Village membership, I wanted to check out a local studio since I like spin so much. That's what brought me to RPM SPIN.
For starters, the owner, Rachel, was very welcoming on my first visit and each visit thereafter. I was impressed, while signing in with my first FREE class, as she said hi to customers coming in the door and SHE KNEW almost everyone's name. That right there told me there were regulars AND she pays attention to her customers.
So far so good.
My first class was with Holly and it was a hybrid class I think. While I felt like much of the class was out of the saddle, it didn't matter because you really go at your own pace. Therefore, pick any class whether it's drop saddle or hybrid because you make it your own workout. Everyone is very supportive. In fact, for each visit, each teacher came to say hi before class and see if I needed any help.
Holly's class was great. High energy (they all are) and awesome music. I find that I keep my phone handy in all spin classes in case I need to "soundhound" a song. It's how I get all my new music - spin classes. Anyway, Holly is a solid athlete and she led a great (strong) class.
My 2nd class was with Jill, who I'm told is pregnant. That's inspiration seeing a pregnant gal spinning. She led a super fun class, though perhaps a bit more mellow than Holly's. That doesn't make it worse or better in my opinion since I love the variety.
The 3rd class I took was today and it was with Rebecca (I think). I brought a friend to try the studio too for her first time. Again, Rebecca was extremely welcoming to both my friend and myself. She made sure our bikes were properly adjusted and told us how her class would be. As with the owner, I saw the teacher say hello to many customers coming in and using their first names in doing so. Rebecca's class was really intense and I think every bike had a rider. She's very popular. I had my biggest sweat with that class, but of course I think having my friend there helped me work that much harder. ;)
Other things about this studio... I loved having the Groupon after my first free class because it gave me a savings on trying more classes (and getting hooked) without investing too much.
Candles - they have a few candles lit (we spin, traditionally, in a darker environment - that's normal), and I LOVE the candles. It's an extra groovy touch. The changing light colors they have are fun and make the ride extra special. From the four places I've been to for spin in the valley, I like these lights the best.
Volume of music - as with most spin classes anywhere, the music is very loud. Too loud for me most of the time so I come prepared with ear plugs.
Schedule - the schedule is pretty good. They offer (usually as far as I can tell) a very early class (no thank you!), a mid-morning one (this is when I usually go), and an evening class (who has energy for that in the evening?) If they had a place I could drop my kiddo while spinning, I'd go more often, but until then, I'm limited to RPMSPIN once a week and getting my other classes at The Village where they have a kids club.
Shoes to rent: RPM Spin offers shoes for rent if you don't have any that clip in. Currently there are few bikes that have baskets for people wearing good ol' tennis shoes, but I'm not sure they're have those forever. And, it doesn't matter since you can rent shoes. That said, wearing clip in shoes is a big deal and VERY helpful. It makes the ride much better I've heard (I've only ever used clip in shoes and I imagine it's much better than not being clipped in).
I like that I can reserve a spot online to ensure I get a spot. They have black towels there if needed (I need!) and clean restrooms.
RPM Spin in north scottsdale is a great spin boutique. I've been happy three out of three times. I look forward to many more classes there even though I'm a member at Village. *There is one tiny exception and that is when I took my friend for the first time, I felt the gal there was a little pressuring in trying to get my friend to sign up (that didn't happen to me when I went the first time and interacted with Rachel). I wasn't surprised the gal was like this because I think I read on another review that it happened to her, too.
Highly recommend!
