| - This place is legend in Madison. Everyone talks about it, raves, about it, but few people have been there due to the odd hours. I finally lucked out today and got there when the cafe was open, and I found out everything I've heard about the place is true.
It is small, only four tables; the kitchen is bigger than the dining area. I got there early to ensure a seat. However, I might have come too early, because the cafe itself didn't seem to be ready. All of the staff were busy getting the bakery ready as people walked through the door asking for coffee cake and chocolate croissants, and most customers had to wait for the first batch to come out of the oven.
I waited quite a bit for my breakfast, considering I was the third person in the door. I had the waffles and they were fantastic, and I heard positive exclamations from the other diners digging into there food. I am glad I finally got to Sophia's. I am delighted this small shop with just weekend hours has such lasting power. But next time, I might stop in a little later and get my bakery to go.
