| - Growing up in Scarborough, this centre has been my medical hub since I was a child. It is located in the Midland Finch plaza, so it's snapdab in a landscape of mom and pop family restaurants, optical stores, and dessert joints. When you are going in to do blood or urine work and need to fast beforehand, the food options here are convenient for energizing yourself afterwards. I will not vouch for the quality of the food around the centre, but it's better than nothing.
My experience here is like riding a teeter totter. Sometimes, it's positive and I feel well serviced and sometimes it's negative and I feel forced into accepting inflexible advice and service. For example, my little sister has struggled with ezcema all her life. She has it on the severe end of the spectrum to boot. After the prescribed medicines given by our doctor here never mitigated her condition for years, she knew she needed to be referred to a dermatologist for more specialized advice instead. However, it took my sister about eleven attempts at asking our doctor to finally be referred! Before that, he would implore her to continue with his treatment and was very rude and demanding when she explained that nothing has worked from him. I am glad he at least gave up and referred her in the end because her ezcema is barely noticeable now after visiting the dermatologist. For me, I experienced similar bouts of unprofessional and hostile tonality from the doctor. I noticed that it usually emerges when you answer his questions in a round about way and when you ask about other alternatives to his advice. Honestly though, when you are discussing your own personal health, then I don't believe it's a stretch for the doctor to provide a high level of emotional labour.
On the more positive side of the coin, I have received very good service from this same doctor, albeit on a rarer occurence. For example, today I had my annual physical and he was efficient and answered questions with professionalism. His tone was still a bit curt, but it was tolerable. As for other personnel, they are generally amiable. The nurses for doing blood work and the doctor for x-rays are always great with their customer service. They will sometimes even crack a joke with you to calm you down!
Depending on the doctor you get, they can speak Mandarin, Cantonese, English, and a host of other languages. The centre houses most of the services you will need from blood work to x-rays to gynecology and so forth. I would highly recommend going here if some of your family members are not capable of easily navigating medical services in English.
