| - This place is a park run by Las Vegas Parks and Recreation. They charge an entrance fee of 6$/vehicle. Thats the first time I've been charged for a city park entrance, but whatever. They have a map/brochure at the gate which you can ask for if they don't offer.
There is historical significance to this site from many time periods. Big game once roamed the area (it is an archaeological site), Indians inhabited the land, and most recently it was a ranch.
Once on property there are 26 historic buildings on site, mostly built in the 1940s. They Gould family had quite an irrigation setup for their farm which is neat to look at. Unfortunately, the buildings were locked to the public (possibly due to the holiday) while we were there, but there are interpretative signs inside indicating they normally allow people in.
The park consists of four lakes that you can fish in. You'll need a fishing license and trout stamp. There were plenty of geese, ducks, peacocks, etc in the park area. You can bring your dog (leashed at all times-there's not a dog run here) but be aware that the aforementioned wildlife live here and have free roam.
There is an area in the park where you can take a horseback ride for $10. There were also some petting zoo looking animals that kids may enjoy.
As for the overall appearance of the park, there were restrooms and trash cans near the main areas. So I'm not sure where the other reviewers were looking for these amenities. As for cleanliness and being in operation, I cannot say as I did not use the facilities, but they definitely exist. I imagine on a busy day it's not always perfect with limited staffing. But if you want more, consider donating to the parks service to enhance these services. With a bad economy they lost funding too, and making sure you have TP 24/7 during park day isn't at the top of their priority list.
