| - Went to the Surprise store to sell some estate jewelry. Right off the bat, I knew this would be a bad experience. The salesperson said,"Let me explain how this works". How what works I thought, how you are going to under value my pieces? She said they don't buy diamonds under 1 carat, so any diamonds will be weighed at mineral weight. Wow. Why don't they mention that on their website? All together, my pieces were appraised at $9000. While I know appraisals are usually high, I did not expect to be insulted by her offer. After putting the gold pieces in some contraption that measures the gold content, she put them on the scale to be weighed. After doing some calcuations, she returned to the counter.
She offered me $12 (no typo), for a 14k gold Omega watch appraised at $1200! For the rest, the offer was $900. I didn't expect appraised value for any of the pieces, but I didn't expect the jewelry to weighed for scrap value. 10% of appraised value? Come on!!
These people are worse than used car salesmen, (not that there's anything wrong with that).
