| - My husband and I decided to take a last minute trip to Toronto. My husband having never been to canada before was SUPER excited that we were flying into/out of YYZ (Pearson's airport code) because of the Rush song. I was just super excited to be going on vacation, again.
I hadn't been to Toronto in years, but it seems like Pearson desperately needs an expansion to keep up. Our hour and change flight was delayed post landing because they just didn't have anywhere for us to park, so we were just sitting on the tarmac. Not a big deal, it was a short flight. Finally off the plane, and we go through customs. On the way in, electronic customs was pretty easy, but I was disappointed we didn't get a stamp on our passports.
Baggage claim was kind of disaster. There was no sign on which carousel our luggage would be, and there was no one to ask. Even wondering if our luggage got lost after checking all the carousels. Finally, that was located and onto picking up the car. We got 3 different directions from 3 different people on where the rental place was. Remember that scene from Vacation where they are in England and get stuck in the roundabout, "there's big ben again," that's what leaving the airport was like. No direct signs, and Waze really did not like the area, and kept rerouting.
Check in for the way back. It's pretty bad. They've gotten rid of tricket agents for the most part, and it's just digital... which means the line is 4 times what it could be. First, just checking in. The machine kept refusing to scan my passport and printed our error messages. I FINALLY found someone to ask, who say I would have to go to customer service (where the line was super deep). A random passing person said, try the white machines, the grey machines never work right. Really? Half the machines are grey! Well, he was right, the white machine did work. Now onto checking baggage. Also a ridiculously long line, because the machine is basically refusing to read every single bag placed on the conveyor belt, and the agent just shrugs her shoulders if you even look in her direction. Now that the bags are dropped off, US customs. More machines that don't work, and are refusing to read people's passports and pictures. You can tell these agents work for US customs because they have an attitude and are obnoxious. And now finally TSA, where of course, I am once again I am "chosen at random" for a more thorough search, only this time my husband's laptop bag is also chosen. After we get our all clear, we go to our gate, which is surprisingly clean and comfortable. Or maybe it's not so surprising, just canada.
Next time my husband wants to fly into YTZ, but we shall see.
