This place is as about as close as you can get to Vegas without leaving town. Well, not in terms of gambling or those nifty comp drinks to help you gamble better, but in terms of quality rooms, amenities and restaurants.
We did a little "Stay-cation" since we're clear over on the west side of town and didn't want to endure the late night drive home after dinner and the Jerry Riopelle concert. We checked in Friday and settled into a very comfortable and clean room with a terrific view of the McDowell mountains. Then dinner at Orange Sky (see that review). The following day we scheduled a couples massage at the Spa at TS and thoroughly enjoys the experience. Both massage therapists were excellent and the amenities in the spa were top notch.
Saturday night was the Riopelle concert. The Showroom as a venue is good, not great. Either the stage should be elevated a few feet or the floor should have been sloped a little more. As folks of average height, we found it difficult to see around a few giants in front of us. Thankfully, the two large video screens above the stage were easily visible. I only wish someone would have suggested to Jerry to trim the Andy Rooney-like eyebrows on display.
We dined at the tiny Ocean Trails next to the gambling floor, which was just right.
All in all, Talking Stick was a great place to hang out for the weekend. I suspect we'll do it again.
