| - If you're considering getting lasik surgery, Dr. Bruce Newman is your go-to guy. I have wanted this surgery for so long and was super chicken about it and long-term effects. I did a ton of research before picking out where to go. I didn't want to go to one of those crowded places where they do 50 gazillion people in a day, I wanted personal care.
Dr. Newman was very upfront about my eyes. I had a horrendous astigmatism, am ahem older and chances were not good. He estimated I would only get results of about 20/40. But I took the chance because I hike and camp and do a lot of outdoors stuff. Dust and my contacts just bugged the crap out of me.
We decided on custom PRK to get the best result. Did you know Lasik, they peel the flap back, do the surgery, you see in a few days. PRK, they laser the flap off and it has to grow and you see again in a few months. The difference is long-term healing. If you get hit in the eye after Lasik, you could have some serious eye problems. So I chose the more scary, slower healing process for long-term health of my eyes. That plus the custom really paid off. I have 20/20, nearly 20/10 vision! It was way more than i could have hoped for. I knew I would still need readers and even with readers, I use a 1.25 and I can see twice as much as before surgery. #WINNING I can actually see when I get out of bed now. I'll be able to see when I'm waterskiing. I mean, I am super thrilled at what a great job the Newman Eye Center did.
You know, we're all individuals. Dr. Newman's personality may not be for everyone. He's a little nerdy and a bit on the quirky side, but I trust his knowledge and experience of 30+ years in the business. I don't need perfect personality - I need perfect results! These are our eyes we're talking about here, not our egos. I don't need a tall handsome charming doctor - I need one that will ensure my eyesight is perfect!
Most of Dr. Newman's staff are warm and friendly and made me feel welcomed and taken care of. The fresh coffee and cookies in lobby are a nice touch. The check-out lady is a hoot.
In terms of welcoming new patient curb-side appeal - the office decor could use a major upgrade. The place looks like it hasn't been decorated since the 80s. But again, whatever - as long as the equipment and skills of the doctor and his staff are up to snuff - that's all I need. They're busy so book plenty of time for your appointment. Even with the constant flow of patients, I've never waited in the lobby for longer than 15 minutes!
Lastly - don't let the front office old biddy scare you away. ( I forget her name.) If there's anyone in the office they need to replace, it's the older lady with short blonde hair who "not-greets" you when you enter. She has a pinched, miserable, sour-puss look on her face 24/7, NEVER smiles, is not conversational, barely acknowledges your presence when you arrive. That's just not the way to greet people. The office could do with a much more friendly and welcoming front-desk person. Get rid of her or make her smile, acknowledge and TALK to her your patients.
