  • Searching for a place to live, in a new city, can be stressful and challenging. Pittsburgh provides a great variety of neighborhoods and "flavors of living" for everyone. I have been living in the Heinz Lofts since September of 2015; here is a breakdown of why I love living in the re-modeled Heinz Factory: Location: As a young professional, with a new career in downtown Pittsburgh, location and commute time was high on the list for me. Also, I do not own a car, and access to public transportation was very important to me. The Heinz Lofts are nestled right up the Allegheny River, with many commuting options. I take the bus into downtown each morning, with my route averaging 8-10 minutes, which is fantastic! I love the fact that the apartment sits directly on the Allegheny River Trail, which makes for a 25 minute walk into downtown. I love having the option of walking into the city, on a nice day. I have also walked down the river to PNC Park for baseball games (about 2 miles). The Heinz Lofts are a great spot; Just far enough away from the city, but close enough for a lovely skyline view! Community / Neighborhood Vibe: When I moved to Pittsburgh, I quickly learned that there was a different vibe with each neighborhood that I visited. The North Shore is a unique and historic area if Pittsburgh. It has it's own rich history and attracts a versatile range of people from different backgrounds. I enjoy living in a neighborhood where there is diversity regarding people, entertainment, etc. There are museums on the North Shore, as well as Pittsburgh's sports scene. Living on the North Shore feels like living in a very real (rough and friendly) old town, in a new city, which is a great description of Pittsburgh itself, as well as the Heinz Lofts: rich in history, but new in the people that it is attracting. The Heinz Lofts community itself seems to be diverse; I have met several of my neighbors and they are very friendly and range in various ages and professions. Management: The management group / office people at the Heinz Lofts were so friendly when I was looking at the apartments and considering the move. I was moving to Pittsburgh, from the state of California and having a helpful hand at the Heinz Lofts made the transition very smooth for me. The management team has genuinely answered all my questions regarding everything from mail keys to maintenance requests to rent. They are busy, but friendly and always willing to help. They also do a great job at providing various programs for the residents of the Heinz Lofts to partake in. This is a great way to meet your neighbors and create a sense of community. Maintenance: I have had one urgent maintenance request since moving in and the process of sending a request in / the execution of the fix was very smooth and professional. Plus, the maintenance man that I have met, is very sweet and friendly! The apartment always looks nice, on the outside and the inside! Apartment: The Heinz Lofts provides several options for floor layouts. I live in a 2 bed / 2 bath apartment and love it! The apartment has great "old but modern / charming" features, some of my favorite include: my giant red rimmed windows and take up almost the whole living room wall; the high ceilings and exposed pipes, the elevated rooms, and the kitchen bar. The Heinz Lofts are lovely and I have enjoyed entertaining friends in my home. Price: Searching for a place to live in Pittsburgh, was my first experience doing so, post college. I knew that the city of Pittsburgh, in general, was more affordable than a lot of other US cities, but when looking at prices, I was still a little overwhelmed. If you find yourself in the same boat, keep in mind that when paying for a apartment, you are not only paying for your living space and amenities; you are paying for the location, commute to your job, safety, access to public transportation (if needed), etc. All those things play a role in choosing a place to live. Pittsburgh is filled with many great neighborhoods, but I feel like the price of the Heinz Lofts is perfect for my needs and provides me with everything I was looking for when searching for a great place to live. Splitting the rent / utilities with a roommate definitely makes it more affordable. Amenities: The Heinz Lofts provides some great amenities, which can be seen on their website. Some of my favorite include: the large community room that can be reserved, outdoor seating next to their cafe, the hot tub (my friends love it, too!) the small but useful gym area, and the dry cleaning pick up. I am going to wrap up my review by saying how much I love living in the Heinz Lofts (if it wasn't obvious enough!). I have no complaints thus far and don't expect to. Pittsburgh is a great city, with many options, but I know that the Heinz Lofts was the right one for me! - xoxo, A (California girl, living in Pittsburgh on purpose)
