| - My husband and I went to Cure last night for our 3rd anniversary. We asked our server to walk us through the menu as we hadn't been there before and she was knowledgeable and patient. We ended up choosing the small salumi board, bruleed chevre, beef tartare, duck, and trout. We brought our own wine; corkage is $20.
The salumi was great. I wish there had been more than one slice of bread for the two of us but it was about the meats, so I get it. The duck speck was my favorite. Everything was so rich and perfectly seasoned.
The snacks were delicious as well. The beef is served as a diy lettuce wrap, so there is a fresh, vibrant component in addition to the very savory beef and egg. The babka that the chevre was sitting on was almost worth the price of the dish alone. This snack was practically a dessert.
The trout was very good. I have never seen beans done like that before- fried crispy on the outside. The duck was completely fabulous. The skin was crispy and the meat just fell apart under the fork. The accoutrements with the duck were also delightful with my husband saying he liked the "little flavor bombs," ie, blistered grapes.
Dessert was a chocolate truffle cake with pistachio butter and raspberry vin cotto that evoked a PBJ made with chocolate cake. The cake was very moist but tasted a little extra toasty on the outside. I had the flip cocktail at dessert as well and I wish I had the recipe.
Overall, we really enjoyed our dinner. It's fine dining food despite the rustic decor, and the portion sizes are small so you can try lots of different things. Definitely a special occasion place. I'm glad we have places like this in pgh!
