The sad state of the zoo facilities means I would not in good conscious visit again or recommend anyone to do so. Giraffes in pens only big enough for them to walk in small repetitive circles. Lions in cement runs surrounded by dozens of people pushing for a good look. The sad ugly state of the penguin exhibit alone should be enough to shut their doors. Have I used the word sad enough in this review? Sad. Sad. Sad. That's how I and my guests from overseas feel after visiting. We happened to go on a discount day, which meant it was busy, but not nearly as busy as it must be in the summer. Lines we longneck to see the animals due to their small pens and small connected viewing areas. Enrichment activities obviously had no budget. The penguins had a plastic bottle filled with pom poms to play with. The meerkats were getting aggressive over 1/4 of a hanging pomegranate. Garbage bins were dirty. The carousel was in disrepair. The gift shop was full of crap--usually zoos are an awesome place to get nice plush toys and conservation books. Who the heck runs this place?!? I usually am very very generous with my reviews. We will visit the science museum and some other kid friendly stuff so check out those reviews.
