  • A local Calgary company that specializes in home automation, located next to the Calgary Fitness Club, and the Calgary Shooting Club (both of which I was not aware of before visiting). The first time I visited here, I didn't know what to expect. There was a function being held here at this location, so I just showed up and didn't check out the website. But as soon as you walk through the doors, prepare to be amazed. The innards of the main floor are virtually nothing but showrooms. They have a couple of awesome demo home theatre setups with gigantic screens, a fully-functional show kitchen, and even an indoor golf simulator. Upstairs is office space and a boardroom. Each of the rooms demonstrates various technology that can be used to automate your home. Everything from remote controlled light fixtures, window coverings, temperature, you name it. Virtually all of the devices on demo can be controlled via an iPad, or even remotely through the Internet, which is handy if you're traveling and want to simulate someone living at home. Most of the technology showcased here is out of my price range, but when I get around to building that dream home I've always wanted, I will probably come back with the intent to buy. Smart Home Systems is a cool place to visit, and if you ever decide to either retrofit or build your home with some automation features, this is definitely the place to visit. 4/30
