Tornado Room is one of the more unique dining experiences in Madison. You walk in and feel like you may be in the 80s and also in your grandma's basement. It reminds me of a supper club. In fact, I believe it is considered one. The bar area is extremely cool and old fashioned, with u-shaped booths and tiny tables. I highly recommend snagging one of these spots around 10pm on a Saturday night and order a brandy old fashioned press with an order of their Coquille Saint Jacques. This dish, scallops poached in white wine and presented over mashed potatoes with heavy cream, is my favorite thing to eat in Madison. Plus, it's served in a half seashell. If you're looking to try something not-so-modern I recommend the Tornado Room.
