| - My fiance and I have been coming here for a little over a year. We have since moved from the surrounding area, but we stop by when we are hitting up the furniture places in the Melrose District.
Meal: The fiance usually gets the edge salad, the veggie burger or the nachos. I typically whatever is on the special, such as the pot pie . . . and onion rings! I am a big fan of any of cask ales and the light rail cream ale. The fiance always goes for the wheat beers or something with a strong fruity taste.
Taste: First and foremost, the onion rings are the best in the valley. They are thick and bread-y. Yes . . . that is a new word in the Yelp lexicon. The beer can be hit or miss, but if they haven't run out of the cask ale, run with it. The food is spectacular. I rarely go with something on the menu because their daily special is usually a stand out! 8 out of 10.
Value: Portions are pretty reasonable. They definitely don't skimp on portions. My fiance and I always end up a to-go box. 4 out of 5.
Service/Cleanliness: Service at SunUp is its Achille's heel. The servers can be rude and rarely know the menu. And its funny and kind of sad when the staff is unable to describe the beers on tap. Its a brewery . . . I would imagine they would know what the beers are like. Finally, their beers are served too warm sometimes. The temperature of some of their beers are room temperature. I respect the fact that some beers are to be served warm depending on the style, but the entire selection isn't to be served at room temperature. 4 out of 10.
Atmosphere: I like the atmosphere because its low key, has a great patio, and a nice variety of music. The bars are pretty nice and when the bartenders are actually working, the conversation adds to the experience. 3 out of 5.
Overall: If you are in the area, stop by for a visit. I wouldn't avoid Friday and Saturday evenings. I would drive across town to try it out and just be prepared for poor service. 19 out of 30 points, 3 out of 5 stars.
