  • Lets be honest, I was never psyched about moving into San Marin. But my roommate was, and considering my basic needs (NO BUGS) would probably be met at San Marin, I agreed to sign a lease. We signed for a year and thus starts my story... The move in was slightly obnoxious because they really don't have any designated loading areas for moving trucks, so we were asked to move multiple times by tenants who were blocked in. We were renting a 2 bedroom unit and were paying about $1,400 a month in rent. Now considering this wasn't an upgraded unit, and it actually had PINK cabinets, I thought the rent was a tad high, but went along with it anyways. If you're sensitive to noise, or a light sleeper, I would probably advise against San Marin. Someone is always taking a shower, and believe me, if they're located anywhere near your unit, you're going to hear the water running through the walls. We also had a fairly loud upstairs neighbor which left us as unwilling participants in his nightly techno-dance parties. "Why not complain to management" you say? We did- repeatedly. But somehow, the partying continued - as did our lack of sleep. Regardless of the number of tenants on a lease, you are allowed one assigned parking space. I repeat, ONE! This made things a bit tricky come Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday when the parking lot would fill with nonresidents and generally drunk idiots looking for a place to stash their cars as they "got their club on" in Old Town. And of course, the tow truck drivers were never there when you needed them, so sometimes, you would literally have to park off property until spaces cleared the next day. Last winter, they also decided (on impulse?) to resurface the entire parking lot. Not only was this a HUGE inconvenience, but they barely provided any notice to the residents, and were charging tenants a "tow fee" if their vehicle needed to be moved. I'm all for improving and upgrading the property, but without adequate notice, when fees are being assessed, and more importantly, when there isn't enough remaining parking for tenants (guest parking should have been restricted), it was a disaster. Then of course, there are the more obvious annoyances like beer cans/bottles/cups littered everywhere (kind of like a bread crumb trail to the pool) and tenants who refuse to pick up after their dogs- which is just disgusting. Upon move out, we received our entire back (as we should have- the unit was immaculate and the carpets had been cleaned), minus a $20 de-fleaing fee. Are there even fleas in Scottsdale? The fee was pretty bogus considering the fee amount wasn't listed in the lease and really should have been deducted from the $200 pet "fee" I paid upon move in, or possibly from the $37 pet rent I paid each month. My advice: If you must live in "the scene," then pay the extra, and spring for Palladium located right next to San Marin. You'll be thanking yourself later.
