| - For some reason this place reminds me of an asian Yardhouse. It has the whole bar set-up and then tables all over. One thing my Bf & I noticed was that there were a TON of waiters/waitresses. It was kind of bizarre as there were about 20 of them.. and it seemed like they knew all the customers or something as they were basically hanging out at their tables. Another thing I found weird is not everyone who worked there was dressed the same -- most were in their assigned Tshirts/uniform/whatever, but some girl was in a romper & another guy in baggy shorts & a T. Highly confused here. I am assuming that we came in at a less busy time.. and that this place is probably a popular hangout place as it gets later. We ordered a few things on the menu, and I wouldn't say anything was terrible, but everything was extremely average.
stir-fried dunginess crab in tamarind sauce -- That day they were offering the crab with spicy aioli sauce.. I prefer spicy to sweet/sour (tarmarind) so naturally I wanted to try the crab with the spicy aioli. In my state of hunger and excitement to try everything, I didn't realize they had brought out the wrong dish -- the crab with tamarind sauce! I already had my fingers shoved in the crab legs (which were of decent size) and a few crumpled up napkins (in attempts to contain the mess which comes with cracking crab claws) when I realized everyone at the table diagonal to ours was staring at me. The duration of this staring was equivalent to the amount of time it took me to consume about two crab legs.. obviously I felt awkward as 1)there is no classy way to eat crab legs in public 2)how do you not feel awkward when the table next to you is essentially gawking. Was I supposed to offer them some? Then it hit me --- the waiter had brought me their crab legs. It all made sense when the four of them got up and left less than 5 minutes later.
Welll - my apologies for eating your crab legs, but in all seriousness you guys didn't miss out on much. I didn't think they were that fresh, and for the price it wasn't worth it.
Shigoku oysters -- The oysters were probably my favorite of everything we ordered. They were fresh & I loved the flavor. Not much else to say other than.. if you are an oyster lover like me, try these!
Pork belly buns with peanut sauce -- this was pretty average. Buns weren't fluffy.
Fish tacos with yellowtail, avocadi, cilantro, tomato --- Again, average.
Whole grilled squid -- I always order this when I see it on a menu so I had high expectations of this.. Sadly I was disappointed as it was way too tough. Almost sent it back (and we NEVER send things back), but I guess we were in a good mood that day.
Bun bo hue - This was good. The broth was full of flavor, but for some reason it really irritates me when they don't serve it with the blood cubes as advertised. I know some pho places will ask you if you've ever had them before (and if you say no they automatically assume you won't like it so they don't include it) but at least they ask! I don't have any real complains about this, but if I were really craving bun bo hue, I would probably just go to an actual Pho place for it.
This place didn't WOW me as much as I had hoped it would. I want to say I'd be back, but I don't know. Maybe.
