| - I started to rate the Improv with 3 stars, but by the end of the review I realized I probably won't go back so I figure that's probably an indicator that three's too high.
We had a great time, entertainment-wise, but let's be real, the only thing Tempe Improv had to do with that was being smart enough to book who they booked (Chris Bonno and Hal Sparks). (And our emcee was great, too, so they were smart enough to hire him.)
Service was pretty good; much better than the last time we were there, but the people behind us were complaining about their server so we might have just gotten lucky. The first time we were there our server barely got us taken care of, so this was an improvement.
The food, however, was not only over-priced it was flat-out bad. We got the double-bites: $11.95 for 3 dry, bland chicken fingers and three "pretzels" which weren't pretzels at all but (also dry) pretzel-like bread minus salt on top. The only thing that made the food palatable was the dips. We were going to order dinner, but just couldn't bring ourselves to chance spending $20 more on the off-chance that it would be decent. (Especially since the guy next to me ordered fish tacos and they smelled really fishy.) Even 2 of my diet Cokes (out of 3) tasted funny, like there was residue in the glass or something. Kind of a chemical flavor.
Drinks are also overpriced, of course. $6.00 beer (bottles), $12.95 for the daily special which was basically Long Island Iced Tea (but with keeper glass!), Cokes are $5.75 a piece, but a bottomless glass (complete with keeper glass) is $12.95 (and satisfies the 2 drink minimum). The tricky part of that is whether your server will get back to you more than once or twice to fill it. I was offered refills three times time, so that was okay with me.
We laughed a lot, but the quality of the food, drinks and the prices were a downer. I doubt we'll go back, to be honest.
