| - Our local. Amazing patio, nice range of beers and ciders, and some very good bar food IF you know what to order -- the menu is uneven.
We love this place. The reviewers who complain about the food miss the point: the attraction here is the patio, which is great for sitting out on a nice day or evening and people-watching on Queen Street. Maybe a secondary attraction is enjoying having a drink at the oldest bar in Toronto.
The burgers, nachos, sweet potato fries and onion rings are usually good; the pirogies, regular fries, and assorted fried platter are, in our experience, best avoided. The service is adequate; again, it's not the main attraction. We've never had a rude server, but sometimes an overworked one.
I've only been inside in the winter when it was too cold to be outside. Overall much quieter then, but a nice vibe.
In comparison to Fresh on Spadina, which seems to have lots of couples on awkward Tinder dates on week nights, the Black Bull seems to attract couples actually having fun on dates. Not a scientific study our anything, just an impression.: )
