  • I have been wanted to try Kosama for a while and I decided one more time to buy a Groupon and commit to it for a month. I get bored easily however I went there pretty much every day for the first 3 weeks then the last week I came only twice... told you so! Let's be honest, Kosama has a great program based on interval training (45 min class) and seems to be on the edge of technology. Indeed, you have TV monitors all around the room and for a fee you can buy one of these heart rate monitor which will actively display your heart rate and calories burn, how cool is that? I didn't get this tool though as I know how my body works and how to gauge my perceived exertion but I admit it could be handy for some. I met pretty much all the team, Randy, Judd, Steve, Melissa, Tyler and Mari and all are very welcoming and sympathetic which was a nice touch however I trained with Steve (80%), Judd (10%) and Melissa (10%). I liked the fact that they have early classes (5am) which helped with my somewhat chaotic schedule. Also, people who go there are for the most part very nice, welcoming and supportive (yes, I ran into some jerks too there, unfortunately). They have 2 showers with one in need of some TLC, the other one is just okay however it helps to rinse off after a work out. Also they provide towels, soap and shampoo, which is nice. The room is a descent size however it feels cramped a bit when 25 people or more are present. So why 3 stars? First, the schedule slides from one week to another (at least it did while I was there). For instance, one week KB was on Thursday, then the following week it is Wednesday then switched back again..., a bit hard to do what you like regularly. Also sometimes you get a schedule in the newsletter and it doesn't match the web site, a bit confusing. Second, the floor seems to not be maintained regularly as it happened to me to collect long hair from the floor while doing burpees, push-ups or abs... For the first 5am class in the morning, you would expect a bit cleaner room. Also, somebody's underwear was hanged for a few days in the bathroom untouched or removed. Honey, where are my pants?? Third, and probably the worse, instructors do not correct the form or, when they do, women seem to be more privileged than men. I do understand that in a busy class it is hard to watch everyone however there is usually the main instructor and another helper on duty during the class, which should be enough to cover everyone. Not correcting the form means it is a potential injury to occur and possibly wear and tear of muscles. For instance, during a Kettle bell exercise I was behind this guy who was lifting a 60 Lbs Kettle bell with bad form (rounded upper back). It really hurt me as it was obvious that the guy was trying to lift heavy but just couldn't do it while using proper form (flat back). At the end of the class, I pointed out what I have seen to Randy and he agreed that good form should be use and bad form should be corrected to prevent injury. Beside my above grips, I liked Kosama and my experience was great for the most part. Unfortunately I can't recommend it to everyone because of these issues. If they end up working on them, they may be what you are looking for. For what it is worth, if you know what you are doing (seriously, don't even say I think I know what I'm doing) and know proper form to exercise or if you don't and know how to ask the instructor, this place may bring some challenges to you. If you don't, I would aim to smaller classes where you can be corrected if need be somewhere else. Internet is your friend, ignorance is bliss!
