  • We took our daughter to PC urgent care last month after she took a scary tumble on her head. It was later in the evening so the urgent cares near our house were closing soon and her after hours nurse recommended PC. I called and asked if they accepted our insurance and was told absolutely yes. When I arrived I gave them my card and again was reassured that they took my insurance (meaning it was within network). We saw the dr quickly and he was friendly, informative, and helpful. We left very pleased and glad we took her there. A couple of weeks ago the bill came and it was 8 times what our normal urgent care bills have been. It showed no insurance deduction so I gave them a call assuming I would just need it resubmitted to the insurance company. I spoke to Amanda at their main billing office and she was extremely rude and unhelpful. She told me that while they do accept AETNA they do not accept AETNA banner health and they have no way of knowing that info they submit the bill to the insurance. I explained that my card clearly states "banner health" on it and I was never told that there was a possibility that my insurance was out of network but rather was assured I would be covered. I told her I obviously would have gone elsewhere had I known that my insurance was out of network for PC. She simply said there was nothing she could do except set me up for a 6 month payment plan. I again explained my frustration and she starts chuckling at me. Seriously!? Up until this point I was call but after that I was ticked. I asked for a supervisor and spoke to Manuel. He told me he'd look into it and get back to me. A few days later he calls to tell me they can give me a 20% reduction but that is it. Even with the 20% it's still way over their non-insurance cash price of $275. How is it that I'm paying more with insurance than I would have if I didn't have insurance? I told them I could pay X amount (still 3 time my typical co-pay) or they could send me to dispute it with collections. They said they couldn't offer more than a 20% discount. Pathetic. I am so disappointed. I used to think highly of PC. My brother has had brain surgery at their hospital and Phoenix and received great care. My late sister received such good treatment there that my parents are willing her inheritance to them. This whole situation just proved to me how greedy even seemingly good places like PC truly are. I can assure you I will not be back to PC and am going to warn my parents about rethinking my sister's inheritance. Such a shame because the doctors really are nice and great but the administration is garbage.
