  • My husband had a bone marrow biopsy and was diagnosed with MDS by Dr. Bagai at Ironwood Cancer and Research Center in October of 2015. The doctor told both my husband and I that the MDS was caught "early," only 5-6% blast, and my husband would need about 4 months of infusions and he would be "fine." My husband received a port and began the Vidaza infusions for 5 days a week for 1 week then Neupogin injections in between the Vidaza infusions. (FYI, Chemotherapy is given the same strength always.) (FYI, Neupogin gives false/positive results.) He's blood cell counts went up and down for four months. Dr. Bagai adjusted the infusions up if his blood counts were down, down if his blood counts were up. My husband asked Dr. Bagai to take another bone marrow biopsy to see the blast counts and he said "NO, you don't need too." My husband asked about a bone marrow transplant and Dr. Bagai told him " he was too old, 73, and the insurance would never approve it." My husband had a very painful gum infection. I called the office to ask for help in treating the infection and Dr. Bagai's medical assist said, "we don't treat the mouth." I asked to speak to a doctor and she said again, "we don't treat the mouth." Thank GOD for our dentist. Following week my husband had a bad continuous cough. I told Dr. Bagai and he said, "everybody is coughing." My husband asked if he could get an X-ray to check it out, Dr. Bagai said "NO." I took my husband to Urgent Care and he was diagnosed with Pneumonia and put on antibiotics. 2 days later he was admitted to Shea Hospital for intensive treatment for a high fever and Pneumonia. The ER doctors did not want to talk to Dr. Bagai regarding my husband's illness due to his neglect of his patient to begin with. In March we went to Mayo Cancer Clinic for a second opinion. They immediately did another bone marrow biopsy and my husband's blast went from 5-6% to 36%, which is now AML. The Mayo doctors were appalled at the lack of treatment and care that my husband received at Ironwood under the "care" of Dr. Bagai! The Mayo doctors told us that unless my husband has a bone marrow transplant he will die in a matter of a few weeks to a month. He was immediately admitted to the Mayo Hospital and began treatment in preparation for a bone marrow transplant which our insurance approved with no problems. The Mayo team did everything in their power to try and put the AML in remission. Tragically my husband passed away on May 2, 2016, due to the deceitful information we received from Dr. Bagai regarding the diagnosis, treatment and prognosis of MDS and the despicable neglect of my husband's treatment and "care" from Dr. Bagai at Ironwood Cancer and Research Center. BEWARE...........of who you trust with your precious life or that of a loved one. Just because a person has a Dr. in front of their name dose not mean they are competent.
