| - Went to a concert at Cleveland's House of Blues last night. Few seats and they go fast so be prepared to stand all night. The real problem is the sound engineer. The mix was so incredibly bad that it was impossible to enjoy the music. I could hardly pick out anything in the mid-range mush, and each time the drummer hit the kick, or the keyboard or bass guitar hit some low note, which was very, very often, the whole house would shake, boom and resonate with that one overly boosted bass and sub-bass frequency. Highs were cutting through, as they always do, but anything in the mid-range was lost in the mush. This over-amplification of the bass betrays a great or complete ignorance of psychoacoustics, and it caused physical discomfort and pain in my ears so that, when the bassist, keyboardist, and kick drum started pounding in unison, the noise was torture. When this House of Blues fails and closes its doors, I will not be surprised. Purveyors of music who know nothing of acoustics? I think not.
