  • Came here for a quick 5a7 a couple days ago, and I was refreshingly confused, amused, and impressed. Upon walking into the building, I wasn't sure where to go (because I didn't check my handy dandy Yelp app in advance). To my right was what looked like a clothing store, ahead of me was some decor, and otherwise, there was a set of stairs leading up to some unknown place to my left. Naturally, I took the stairs, but was quickly asked by a gentleman below where I was going. Once I said I was looking for the bar, he asked me to come back down, at which point I (again, confusingly) walked into the clothing store. He smiled a little mischievously (like he's seen this happen so many times), shook his head, and opened a secret door behind the decor (yes really, secret) that led into the dark speakeasy bar. I walked in, and was immediately asked for my coat, at which point, I was handed a card (king of clubs to be exact) as my coat ticket. As if all this wasn't refreshing enough, I sat down with my girlfriends, and a staff member came to talk to me about the drink I would like. No straight up boring drinks here by the way! Before I could ask for my typical spiced rum and diet coke, I was asked a series of questions about my taste. Did I like sweet, sour, or bitter drinks? Very strong tasting or not? What kind of base liquor did I enjoy? After giving him a little bit of information, I was skeptical about him getting my taste right. I have never been more wrong. About 3 minutes later, I received a gorgeous ruby red drink and was informed of a list of ingredients it took to create this masterpiece (including peppercorns and some spices!). Skeptically I took a sip, and I was immediately impressed. As weird and as random of a drink as it was, it was bang on in terms of the type of drink I'd like. And, it turned out not to be as expensive as I anticipated sitting at $17 (which yes, is expensive for one small cocktail, but given the entire story I just told you, it's acceptable). Overall, a cool and dark intimate vibe with excellent service and a refreshing twist on what a bar can offer. Will definitely be back!
