| - I really wanted to love this place. There are ALOT of things that this place gets right, and with a few tweaks, I know it would be a 5-star experience. But as it currently stands, I have to be honest in that it did not meet expectations.
Appearance: 5-Stars all the way. It's like walking into the Saw movies. These sets are easily the most impressive I've ever seen in a Escape the Room:
Length: So this is kind of a mixed bag. By my count, there were technically 7 rooms that you needed to 'escape'. However, this may be a little misleading. Most of these rooms only had one puzzle to solve. Which brings me to....
Design: I will admit that some of the execution is done perfectly. There are a few situations where you will feel like you really are playing the Jigsaw Killer's game. However except for two that I can remember, the 'end goal' for every other room was the same. (I don't want to give it away, but I mean how you beat or escape the rooms.)
Props: So here's one of the big issues I had. You've got a pretty large group of people you allow into these rooms (more on that later), but then you only hand out six items (again, trying to keep it as spoiler free as possibly) for a group of 12? That was ridiculous. We all pay the same amount, we should all be given an opportunity to have the same items and therefore have the same chance at solving the puzzles. It's not like everyone knows each other, which brings me to...
Group: So yeah, this is my biggest gripe. If anyone has ever done escape rooms in a group of all friends, and then in a group with strangers, you know that it is completely different scenarios. With friends, the connections are there, and you can much more easily work with each other and communicate. With strangers, you have to be more polite, and careful. Everyone wants to contribute, but without a direction or leader, sometimes they can devolve into chaos. Well, with a group size of 12 people, that is exactly what they are asking for here. The rooms are too small, and too many red herrings for a group of 12. Too many of the rooms devolved into yelling over each other and nothing getting done. We failed on a few of the puzzles because no one was listening to each other. I know my wife and I figured out how to solve one of these puzzles, and I know I had another one totally figured out, and an idea on the third, but no one would listen to me. It was like talking to a brick wall. Unfortunately I gave up trying to help everyone out of the rooms, as it was obvious no one wanted my input. That's fine, but when you only have a VERY short time to escape each room, you need to work fast. When something isn't working, it's time to let someone else take a crack at it. That sure as heck wasn't happening.
I think part of this was that it's Vegas. I don't know how many people are really there to escape the room, or are more just wanting to experience a Saw Maze, and those that are drunk and are getting dragged by their friends. Ours had all three. But I think anything more than 8 people is just detracting from the experience, and only about trying to generate more income for them. This is fine, but it's at the expense of the overall experience.
So my feeling is if you have the cash and want to book a private group, go for it! I'm sure it'll be a blast, and you'll have a great time. But if you are a small group, and they are still capping it at 12 people, you might want to pass. Unless you just want to experience it and don't care if you escape or not.
