| - Note: I attempted to send a similar letter of this to KSNV right after watching but was unable to through their website. Another letter of this regard was sent through my email account to them but to date I have not received a response.
On August 13, 2017, I broke with a long tradition of watching my regular local news programming and decided to watch the 5:00 pm news broadcast on KSNV Channel 3 NBC. The reporters appeared to be uninformed and insensitive to the recent perpetration of violence by white supremacists in Charlottesville, VA resulting in 3 deaths and leaving us in a racially charged environment today. During their sports broadcast, I was astounded to hear the sports reporters make a derogatory remark targeted at Marshawn Lynch that "he needs to eat skittles so that he can stand for the national anthem". In their attempt to diminish Marshawn, the reporters portrayed their blatant arrogance, ignorance, racism, lack of empathy, self-awareness, along with an ownership and blatantly display their white privilege.
Their statements reflect that a year later, they still fail to understand the politics behind the African American athletes' protest of the national anthem and it does not speak well for their intellect. Furthermore, their obliviousness of realizing that their salaries and provisions for life are the results of the overwhelming contributions from profits made by African Americans' performance in a wide range of sports arenas was a painful illustration your reporter's ownership of their white privilege.
It is statements likes theirs, i feel, that discredits the Civil Rights of African Americans today and furthers the white supremacists' agenda.
