| - Dinner last night was a big family gathering of 15 adults and 3 kids. We made reservations ahead of time (which was done by another family member and apparently was not the easiest reservation for some reason. The initial number kinda had a shocking effect on the restaurant -20 adults initially, not sure why).
When I arrived, most of our family members were already there and had ordered appetizers and drinks. I ordered my main when everyone did so we could all eat at the same time. With too many good sounding options on the menu, it took me a while to decide what to order. Craving seafood and risotto, I decided to order one of the more expensive items on the menu, the shrimp and lobster tail risotto. My brother in law ordered the fillet minion and his wife ordered the shrimp and lobster fettuccini. Other members of the family ordered more dishes, if I saw correctly, one ordered the chicken risotto and one of the kids had an order of Mac & Cheese. There were chicken dishes ordered and pasta dishes and so and so forth.
The food came out in a relatively good time, considering the size of our table. My dish was perfectly done. The risotto was creamy but with a slight bite to the rice, exactly the way it should be done. There was a decent amount of shrimp in the dish, maybe even a bit more than I expected. The dish might have been slightly over seasoned but for me, a person who always has to add salt to everything and likes bold flavors, this dish just nailed it. The veggies in the dish worked very well with the risotto, mushrooms, asparagus, roasted red peppers and tomatoes, everything tasted delicious.
While my experience was great yesterday, I had to give the place 4 stars (and maybe could have gone for less if I tasted some of the other dishes). The comments on the table was "something is missing, this dish isn't impressive" that was for the shrimp and lobster fettuccini. Our second cousin who ordered the chicken risotto hardly ate any thing from it and refused to pack it and take it with her. The Mac and cheese from the kids menu came in an adult size dish with adult silverware and an adult size drink. This was kinda weird because everything ordered for the kids came out of the kids menu. Not complaining about their generosity but for a kid, this wasn't easy to eat, or drink! The fillet minion seems to have been ok, no complaints.
Overall, my experience was great & service was excellent. Other members of the family, not too much, some may not even be returning to Brio because of the prices in comparison to the taste of the food.
I think I would be returning with my husband next time (who couldn't join us yesterday unfortunately) and give some of their other dishes a try. I hope the other dishes will also be as good as the risotto!
