| - If learning about the various Charlotte neighborhoods and not having to drive is your goal, then sign up for the Queen City Tour. Being a new resident of the "Queen City" I definitely needed a guide to help me become familiar with the neighborhoods and what there is to do in the city.
It cost $25 per person and then any additional tip when the tour is complete. Depending on how many is in your group depends on which form of transportation you take. There were only 9 people and we took a long van. You get scheduled a pick-up at a nearby hotel. Juan was our guide and he had been in the business for 9 years. He was very knowledgable, friendly, and humorous!
The tour was very thorough and shuttled us through the 1st-4th Wards (Historic District, Uptown), Dilworth, and South End areas. There is a lot to take in! The tour lasts approximately 2-2 1/2 hours. You take a break in the middle of the tour in a local shopping plaza for a snack or beverage (bring your purse or wallet).
I expected to get caught up on the history of Charlotte (i.e., how it got its name, industry, evolution, etc.), but it was more focused on the various areas of the city. It was a great tour overall and it was very fun to see the different, beautiful homes.
