  • I've wanted to stay here for a long time, and finally pulled it off. Frankly, I would say the hotel was fine...but not exceptional. We checked in around 10pm on a Thursday night - there was a long line of people checking in, yet as we stood and waited, they went from 4 people handling check in down to 2. Seems odd...and certainly didn't help the wait. One of the people behind me made a fuss about it to some kind of manager looking person, who promised to do something...and then did nothing. Like - he could have helped check someone in, he could have done something to find other people to handle check in...he just kind of walked around quickly and looked busy, by which point we finally made it to the counter. Whatever. Rooms were comfy - nice sized basic room, classily appointed in warm colors, etc. Obviously the whole "control the entire room from a tablet" setup that they use to set themselves apart. Don't get me wrong, this is still very cool - but it's getting more and more doable yourself at home with the right light switches and whatnot. I bet when this place first opened, that was *mind blowing*. Beds were comfortable, although lots of wadded up non-fitted sheets. Shower was OK - weak water pressure (and on a low floor, it should have been painful!) and the "hot" setting wasn't very hot. Not the relaxing "wake me up after a night out" shower I wanted. I will say that for the first time in my life, I got a room near the elevator instead of 6 miles down the longest hotel hallway in the universe. I could go from my hotel room to a blackjack table on the casino floor in about 2 minutes, no joke. That's...amazing, and I know completely variable based on what room you got, but man was that ever nice. The casino itself I liked - it's kind of a long linear design, which means it's also one of the few casinos where I was never lost...the design is such that I felt like I could find something once and then negotiate my way back to it easily. At almost every other meandering maze casino (and I understand they do this for a reason) I just wander aimlessly following signs until I find what I want. Here I actually was able to remember where stuff was - a new experience for me. Location along the strip is nice too, even if it is set back off a little bit. You're at least about halfway north/south, so everywhere is reachable without a severe hike. One thing that annoyed the crap out of me - the business center does not open until 7am, and there's otherwise no quiet place to take a conference call when you're sharing a hotel room with someone. That just seems unreasonable - 7am in Vegas is 10am in NYC - you're telling me that there's no conference attendee that might want to have a midmorning conference call with his office back east? Seems to be not the most customer friendly. End of the day, this was a good place to stay. It didn't blow my mind, but it was fine. I don't know if it was any better than, say, the Venetian, but it's also not at the far end of the strip like Venetian. It's just too bad that it's also usually quite expensive (like the Venetian) unless you visit (like we did this time) on a random slow winter weekend.
