My AC wasn't blowing cool air. Called Parker and Sons, they had tech come out and diagnosis the issue as a leak in the coil. He pumped system with nitrogen but couldn't locate the leak, yet told us we needed to replace coil. Total cost with labor would be $2500. Next thing we heard from P&S was that they wanted to have a second tech come out to review diagnosis (after collecting service charge from initial visit).
Called Sonoran Air for a second opinion, their techs are hourly, not commission based, they came 3 days later. Told me no detectable leak and only need to add refrigerant to system. He said if there is a leak it is so small that testing cannot detect it. Sonoran charged me the service fee and cost to add refrigerant and cost to vacuum my system of the nitrogen Parker and Sons put in it, approximately $600. HUGE difference in diagnostic. He also added that he wasn't sure of the amount of nitrogen the P&S tech put in my system but t was still holding 430 lbs of pressure and that's more than enough to locate a leak. Not my area of expertise by any means but I would assume if there was a major problem that requires full replacement to the tune of that type of price tag, one should be able to locate the existence of a leak.
I feel like I paid for nothing with Parker and Sons. I was hesitant to go forward with the repairs with them initially because the tech was having a lot of difficulty, in my opinion, answering some basic questions my spouse and I had about his diagnosis. I would also like to add that they gave us a 12-4 window and didn't show up until 530pm.
