Definitely a unique little spot to check out. Cramped and cozy with admirable kitsch, the only thing at odds is the unsexy Faema espresso machine, which looked out of place and plasticky amidst all the vintage memorabilia in the place.
I was worried at first at the size of my double espresso - I seldom get them pulled as "long" as Lou did, but it was thick and rich and smooth so I'd have little problem ordering another. My cherry pastry was nothing to write home about, but I just needed something sweet to go with the coffee.
Eavesdropping, I gathered that the owner has been using Lavazza beans for his near 17 years in the restaurant business. He proudly acknowledged that he's bucking the trend of going with beans like Intelligentsia's, preferring to stick with Lavazza's consistency and quality. Though I usually turn up my nose at the mention of Lavazza (I picture beans being shipped by air from Italy and figure the quality must take a hit) my espresso was well above par, so what do I know?
