| - This is the best animal hospital in Pittsburgh. It is certainly not fancy, which is what allows their prices to be probably be the most reasonable in the entire city. The vets, the staff and the techs are amazing. They really genuinely care about the animals, they allow walk-in appointments, and they have their office hours such that it caters to people's work schedules. They could not be more accommodating. More than anything though, the vets and their entire staff are all the most caring wonderful people you will ever meet and your animal will be in the best hands at this clinic.
By way of example: One of my cats got a urinary blockage, which is a life threatening emergency for which I had to take him to the emergency vet off Camp Horne Road. He was there for a week. I would go visit him every day and when I went in he was covered in pee, his cage was filthy, and at one point they put him in an enclosed room next to a dog barking hysterically 24/7. The techs just sat there reading magazines and gossiping and paid no attention to these extremely ill animals. My cat got an infection from his poor care there and the price for all of this was over $2,000. As a contrast to this horrible experience, I found a stray cat on my running trail. I was finally able to trap her and needed to get her spayed. Every other vet required you to have an appointment. I didn't know what to do and a friend recommended Penn Animal Hospital because they allow walk-in appointments. I took her in and they did the surgery. It was winter time and they were worried about me releasing her so they kept her there for over a week to rest and heal without having to be out in the frigid temperatures. I went to check on her every day and her cage was perfectly clean, she was warm and content in a large cage with no barking dogs near her. The tech even came in on Sundays to watch after her and clean her cage. It was after this experience that I transferred all my animal's care to Penn Animal Hospital. I don't even think they charged me for leaving the kitty there for a week (who I had every intention of releasing back into the wild where I found her but took her home instead). Anyway, the experiences couldn't have been more different. One was fancy, super expensive and has an enormous building and my animal got the worst, could not be more indifferent care, and one is not fancy at all, not expensive and is in a tiny old building and my animal got the best most compassionate care. It's not the fancy building that makes the clinic - it's the people that work there that are caring for your animal. That is what counts and they are the best.
