  • Golden Nugget used to be the best Downtown casino, but the last 2 times I stayed there the service got progressively worse. It is very apparent that most of the employees are unhappy with their jobs and with the way management is doing things (or not getting things done correctly). I've asked multiple employees why this is and the majority said that those working in management have changed and/or been replaced and the way things are run is now more inefficient, unfair, counterproductive, and management doesn't care about the front line employees like they generally used to (until around 2014-2015). I just got an offer via email that said I had both entry into a $799 slot tournament and 3 nights free stay. The way it reads is extremely deceptive and to be sure it wasn't just me, I let 5 friends of various ages read the email, as well as 3 of their friends. I didn't tell them anything about it, I just asked them to tell me what the offer included, and ALL 8 of them thought it included free entry into a slot tournament and 3 nights free stay. When I called to book this promo I was told I had to PAY $799 entry fee for the tournament to get the "free" room rate! Keep in mind that rooms at Golden Nugget are around $60-$100 per night depending on the season so I'd have to be an idiot to pay $799 for 3 nights in a regular room there lol! If it was a huge suite it might be worth it if they looked like the junior suites at Caesars Palace. The lady in Golden Nugget Promo department 800# basically inferred that I was stupid and couldn't read (which is why I polled a bunch of people to prove my point and confirm my claim that the email offer was EXTREMELY DECEPTIVE the way it was written) and she sounded very annoyed the whole time as if she couldn't wait for her crappy job and day to end so she could just go home. I was never angry, rude, mean, or anything other than perfectly civil the whole time so for her to act like that and treat me like that was very rude and uncalled for. Because of the deceptiveness of the email as well as her poor attitude, I then requested to be taken off the email list for future offers and she said she couldn't do that (still in the "annoyed" tone of course). I will always give a business a 2nd chance because there are always a few bad employees that can ruin your day, but when it's apparent the vast majority of them are bad that's where I draw the line. This has been my favorite casino to stay at in Downtown Vegas for many years even though I get more and better room offers and promos from Caesars and Venetian, but I'm going to start staying on the strip from now on because the slightly lower cost of food and easier parking Downtown is just not worth the poor service, attitudes of unhappy employees, and deceptive marketing. Instead of paying $9 for a good Golden Nugget cheeseburger, I'll be spending $12 to get a good Venetian burger but that $3 difference to TOTALLY worth the excellent friendly and helpful service that I've always gotten at Venetian, and I'd actually be happy to pay twice that much just to avoid the bad attitudes and poor service of any casino such as the Golden Nugget from now on. Obviously this is MY opinion based on things I've experienced and I hope your experience is better with Golden Nugget, but when all the 1529 Yelp reviews of Golden Nugget only average 3 out of 5 stars you can safely assume that the experiences I've stated above are a pretty accurate depiction of how your experience will be too.
