I have fallen into the trap many times of buying a fitness membership and feeling virtuous until I realized how seldom I attended. The sales model for most places seems to be on selling memberships. What I liked about my trial at Striation was the focus on putting together a community feeling; very personal attention once you walk through the door, which continues through to the group classes or the individual workouts you do. The pay per use structure (after a certain number of uses per month the rest of the classes for the month are free) is more of an incentive than a monthly fee structure, and the variety of classes are fun!
