| - I did not have a great first experience here a couple months ago. Checked out this Plato's Closet location--I had some springtime-y clothes I wanted to sell--and left an hour later feeling pretty miserable.
First, an hour is too long of a wait. I was told it would take about 45 minutes (for the employees to review and assess the clothing I intended to sell), which was pretty shocking to me, so I headed to Pier 1 Imports and Ross next door to kill some time and then afterwards still ended up spending about 30 minutes waiting in Plato's Closet. Can't help but think they make you wait so that you inevitably browse their merchandise, even if you originally had no intention of doing so, like me.
The stuff here is similar to merchandise at other Plato's Closet locations--mostly mall store brands like American Eagle, Old Navy, XXI, Hollister, Abercrombie & Fitch, and Gap with some occasional BCBG Max Azria, J. Crew, and Ralph Lauren. Condition ranges from visibly well-worn to OK to like-new to new-with-tags, and to me the pricing makes little sense. Many moons ago one of my part-time jobs was at A&F, and to be honest Plato's Closet sells some used A&F clothing for more than you'd pay for the brand-new clothing on the sale tables at an A&F store.
There's a good amount of Pittsburgh sports clothing, which is cool. I might need to go through and thin out my Steelers drawer at home...
For the most part the young employees were perky and nice. I liked Randall. The young woman who paid me at the end of the waiting ordeal though, please take note: I don't appreciate being called "hun" or "hon" or however you want to spell it multiple times by a complete stranger who, to boot, looks to be considerably younger than me! I don't doubt that others find this offensive too.
I bet I'll return here to sell clothes, but I'll wait until I have a bigger load of things to bring in. If I'm going to be here an hour I want to increase my odds of that hour being worthwhile!
