  • The short version: Came to Vegas for someone's wedding. Rooms were ok. Too much walking required to get between the buildings and parking. Surprising lack of cleaning service. TV sets didn't work right. Strange little noises kept me awake. Shower drain was clogged and didn't get fixed. Concierge' service is poor. Read on for more detail. We stayed at Tahiti Village the last week of September for a wedding, which also took place there. Although the rooms were reasonably comfortable and quiet and the kitchenette with a microwave oven and fridge was a nice touch, there were a few things that in my opinion definitely knocked points off. First, we had two rooms and I don't know if it was oversight or whatever but they assigned us rooms at opposite ends of the same building, literally a football field apart. When we checked in at the desk they showed us a map of the hotel and made it seem as if our room was easy access from the parking garage in the back. That was wrong, we had to walk the entire length of this very long hallway, about the length of a football field, to reach the elevators, then on reaching the ground floor had to walk the same length hallway to reach the parking garage. All that walking got old right away, especially when carrying all those wedding items up to the room. There is no regular cleaning service. We were there three days and were told to leave trash and dirty towels out on the hallway so it will be picked up. There are TV sets in the bedroom and living room but the set in the bedroom had a bad remote control, and the one in the living room had trouble changing channels and sometimes would get stuck and had to be turned off and on again to clear the problem. Not that there was anything worth watching, of the 35 or so channels many were news, infomercials and ESPN sports. Some had bad reception. I slept in the living room and late at night there were strange little clicking noises coming from the area around the TV set that kept me awake, and when the AC would come on there was a whistling sound from one of the air vents. I discovered there was a stereo/CD player hidden in the armoire above the TV and thought I would put on some music real low to mask the sounds so I could sleep, but the stereo didn't work. It had some disconnected or missing cables in the back. There was a wireless keyboard that seemed to have something to do with internet access via the TV set but that didn't work either. I found out later that there was Wi-Fi available in the lobby and on the 10th floor but not in the rooms, which begs the question what was the extra $10 resort fee for? The shower drain was partly clogged to the point that after a shower there were several inches of standing water in the bottom of the tub. I called the front desk about it but it was never fixed during the three days we stayed there and just got worse. The wedding was held poolside in this outdoor area which is made up to look like a beach including sand on the ground. Since the pool was open to guests there were people swimming and playing in the pool, right behind the wedding couple and the minister, during the entire ceremony. There were other hotel guests visiting the pool area who wandered back and forth past the seated wedding guests. If the hotel rents out the facility for a wedding I don't understand why they don't clear the area for the duration of the ceremony. All those hotel guests swimming and playing in the pool are now a permanent background in all the wedding photos. On the last day of our stay I had no car. Being my first time in Vegas I didn't know where anything was but had seen the shuttle buses in front of the hotel and wanted to find out how to get to the casinos and have lunch at one of the buffets I had heard so much about without a great deal of walking since it was quite hot outside. I went to the concierge' desk and asked the employee there about where the shuttle bus went and how to get from there to a lunch buffet. The employee advised me that I didn't want to eat anywhere "on the strip" since "everything was much more expensive" there, which I understood to mean upwards of $50 per person for lunch. The employee suggested I could walk to the mall that is about one block away from the hotel and find some fast food places there. After walking there and back in the midday heat and paying too much for some fast food, I returned and saw a different employee at the concierge' desk. Just out of curiosity I asked again about the shuttle bus and lunch buffets. This employee informed me that the previous info I was given was wrong, and proceeded to list several good places to eat at, all within walking distance from the shuttle bus drop off point, directions to each, along with her personal recommendation of each of the eateries she had mentioned. This was the topping on an already bad hotel stay. For someone who works at the concierge' desk to give such bad advice is inexcusable.
