| - Please please do not let your kids go here unless they are starting from kindergarten. Many children drop out with the first week, I regret not pulling my child then also. I thought this school would be amazing and I can't say my daughter hasn't been exposed to some good things. My problem lies within the fact teachers have many times told me my child didn't have their homework yet she could show me very clearly graded assignments that had been checked. The martial arts/kenpo teacher has told my daughter to "get over it" when she gets hurt with the rough style of martial arts they are required to do. I have had many incidences on bullying which have been overlooked. Additionally, the principle has many times laughed at my concerns and told me my child seems to exaggerate. My child has struggled and had failing grades yet I was not notified until a report card came out. I have a friend who has children there, her children were pulled out of class and were told they were being picked up by their dad. It was in fact not their dad and they didn't recognize the man, Basis did not do due diligence to ensure who he was actually picking up. The man could have very easily left with the children if they did not speak up.
70% of the support staff from the Scottsdale location was laid off recently along with a large part of the math department. My daughter's math/science teacher at this location has to teach two grade levels with amounted to about 200 kids, I don't see any possibly way for my daughter to successful when they expect a higher level of learning. The 1st graders are learning 2nd - 3rd grade material but do not have the support to achieve this. There is almost always 2 hours of homework a night. I pick my daughter up at 3:35, we get home at 4pm and she truly only has time to work on homework, eat dinner, and maybe have time for a shower after this long day, I don't have any time to spend with her after it all. I wanted her to be pushed as a student but basis has gone overboard without a support system. Please please be aware of Basis before enrolling your child. Also, be aware they expect at least a $1500 donation per child, per year.
Basis is mainly made up of teachers that are fresh out of college with little experience and it very clearly shows. They offer a lot but are not able to support a lot. The art teacher left over spring break and now there is no art classes.
I wish I would have done more research, I thought this was an amazing find and extreme luck we got in but now I truly understand why a lot of parents pull their kids out as quickly as possible.
