  • For the price, it was good. I think a lot of people allow their expectations get the better of them when they book cheaper hotels. I stayed for 5 nights in early April and I paid about $50 (USD) a night. At that price for a downtown location, you really need to expect to tolerate a few things. My room (1707) was furnished with older carpeting, furniture and bathroom fixtures. The room did include a small galley-type kitchen with a full-size fridge and the only view was to an adjacent hotel (Marriott RI). The room was clean enough. I say clean enough because no matter which 5-star hotel you stay in, you will ALWAYS find that errant left behind strand of hair or a few paint chips in the walls. If you look hard enough for it, you WILL find it! (My room had both) Nothing too disgusting or anything but again.....50 bucks a night downtown. As this is Montreal, if you stay on either a Friday or Saturday night, your neighbors will probably be a room full of 18 year-old American kids who will drink and party well into the night. It wasn't annoying enough that I complained but just expect it, they're usually harmless. They just don't get to drink at home in the States. The only other thing you may run into (or actually be run into by) is ..I've noticed the same few people literally leglessly drunk (not kids) hanging around the lobby or out front a few days in a row. So I'm guessing that they may do some "long-term rentals" i.e. emergency housing there. Nobody really threatening but again we're not at a Hilton. The staff was pleasant enough but I don't ask much either. I spoke to the housekeeper on the second day and told her that I wouldn't need any service for the time that I'm there (I'm willing to reuse my towels and make my bed). WiFi was adequate and $5 per day. I was travelling solo so I don't really mind these types of places as long as they're safe, reasonably comfortable and well located. This place was. It's located about 2 blocks from the nearest Metro station (Atwater) and if you feel like walking to the downtown core it's about a 20 minute walk. There are an infinite amount of choices for restaurants close by. To close, I think this hotel is just fine if you're willing to understand that most of the time you'll get what you pay for and nothing more. Anything more is a bonus. I'm an elite at Hilton and Marriott (Diamond & Platinum respectively) because of my job of, course! (all elites at the big chains are there because of their work and if they tell you otherwise they're lying to you) Anyway, I've been fortunate enough to have had the opportunity to stay at some really nice places. If my wife was travelling then we'd stay at either a Hilton or Marriott so she could enjoy some of the benefits that come with me being a frequent patron. But for me, this place was just fine and considering that the rate was 1/4 to 1/5 the rate of the major chains in the area, it was even finer. Happy Travels!
