  • I knew last summer that my AC unit(s) were on there last legs. The units, (1) 4 ton and (1) 2.5 ton were going on 16 years old, had become very inefficient, and made more noise than a diesel engine. The company that did my yearly service told me I was on borrowed time. Every year I was fixing something and costing me a couple hundred bucks every visit, not to mention the electric bills I was receiving. I knew I had to address it. I worried and prayed all last summer that the units would keep running because I figured buying a new system in the dead of summer was not in my best interest. So I spent last summer securing financing to replace the AC this winter. So last week I started my quest looking for the best price. Any work in the past that required a contractor, I always went to Loew's because they put themselves between you and the contractor, so it really is a level of protection. They hooked me up with "Alaskan Heating and Air" at 3170 Polaris Ave. I know what your thinking, big box store hooking you up with a reputable triple A- BBB company, meant big bucks. I knew what I wanted, a Lennox. I started getting quotes from another equally reputable firm and another from a smaller but reliable company. I asked all three to provide me with two estimates, one for just the AC units (including the condenser coils in the attic) and one with the AC system AND matching furnace. Hey, that was also 15 years old, plus if they are going up there and tear out the old coils, I didn't want to go through that again in another couple years for the furnace. Anyway, Robert Hampton from Alaskan came to my home, looked at my units, how far the technology has come in 15 years and what would work best for my home. The man is a real pro and knows his stuff. Went over the contract and what to expect from Alaskan. So why am I writing this? because Alaskans quote, came in lower than any competitor. I'm not talking hundreds, but thousands less. It wasn't even close. I won't disclose the amounts or the competitors, but Alaskan came in with a couple grand less for the whole system to include the furnace than the competitors quotes for just the AC units!! Closed the deal on a Friday and Alaskans boys were at my front door first thing that Monday morning. Came with three trucks and 4 guys, and like a swarm of bees had my old system out and the new system in and running in about 6 hours. And talk about courteous, friendly and professional. I can't remember all their names and for that I'm sorry, but Laid plastic everywhere and cleaned up after themselves and done. Bottom line, if you are thinking about or you don't have allot of faith in your system surviving the summer, you better call Robert and soon, cause the warmer it gets I'm sure so will the prices.
