| - When you go to the service center at a dealer, you know it's going to cost a little more, but you expect the service to be done right and done well. And with every other Jeep dealer I've ever gone to, that's always been true, and I have always been extremely satisfied with the quality of the service. Unfortunately, as I was driving from Los Angeles to Tucson, I had the misfortune to get stuck in Scottsdale with a broken down Jeep, and not knowing where else to go, I made the mistake of taking my car in to the local Jeep dealer: Airpark. I have never received such terrible service or been so horribly ripped off by any service center in my life.
The service rep quoted me a price of $1500 to fix my air conditioning and fan belt. But when I checked out of my hotel and came to pick up my car as scheduled, he told me that although they replaced the compressor and fan belt, the air con still didn't work, because the car needed an inexpensive hose that they didn't happen to have in stock. So basically, I paid $1500 for a fan belt and an idler to run it. But, as I had already checked out of my hotel and Tucson was only two hours away, I figured I'd just head down to Tucson and have a local mechanic who I know and trust replace that hose.
But when I took my car in to him to get the (supposedly inexpensive) hose installed, he told me that the job didn't look like it was done right, and the car likely needed more than just a hose. He phoned the service rep at Airpark, and sure enough, after some back and forth, the rep confessed that the car needed at least one other part, and then needed to be flushed -- all of which was a much bigger job than he told me it would be -- and even at that point there was no guarantee the a.c. would work.
My mechanic didn't want to do the work on my car because he smelled a big problem, and he was concerned anything he did would void the warranty on the incredibly overpriced compressor they installed, so I tried scheduling an appointment to drive back up to Scottsdale and have Airpark finish the job they started. But I totally got the runaround, was told by the service rep that only the service manager could okay getting the work done without additional charges, and despite my multiple phone calls leaving him multiple messages, the service manager refused to call me back.
Very long story short: I finally got my air conditioning fixed and working, but because Airpark did such a terrible job and the other mechanic needed to re-check and re-do so much of what had been done, it cost me over $400 above and beyond what I was (over)charged by Airpark.
I guess maybe the guys at Airpark thought they could take advantage of some dumb woman who was stranded on the road, thought they could just rip me off, and they wouldn't ever see or hear from me again. But they couldn't be more wrong.
Needless to say, like SO many other people here on Yelp, I do NOT recommend the Airpark service center! STEER CLEAR!!
