| - Comerica, get your act together. Steve Martin/Martin Short show was terrific, but no thanks to you. Knowing that the house was sold out, you had no system in place to handle the large crowd. Attendees managed to create our own serpentine line...at first. Then the last third of the line suddenly turned around and cut to the front. Pleas to "Security" for help went absolutely ignored. The result was an enormous clump of thousands trying to push toward the metal detectors, with no sense of order or safety. Oh, and it's August in Phoenix, so there's also that extreme weather discomfort factor. When we finally got to the metal detectors, it was clear that there, too, no consistent process was in place.
Once inside, we thought we were home free, but.... Noooooo! Martin & Short came on the PA system to apologize for the delay, which they had been told was due to "ballgame traffic." As this excuse was bogus, the crowd booed loudly, which had the effect of creating a running gag for the comedians, who immediately understood that what the Comerica staff had told them was a crock. The show itself was really fun, but was marred by a continually substandard microphone system that kept cutting out, not to mention the easy chairs that Comerica had put on stage for the headliners, which were so low to the ground that Martin & Short made fun of them for about 5 minutes straight.
It is a mystery why a theater which assumably is in the business of handling large crowds has no system in place to actually do that. And wouldn't you think that a working sound system would be a priority at a venue where sound is a crucial element of the experience?
Shame on you, Comerica. I will think long and hard before buying tickets to another event at your facility.
