I'd hate to compare Schreiners to another sausage place but being there are two top contenders for amazing homemade sausages I feel obligated to. Schreiners isn't as jaw dropping as Stanley's when you walk in. The smell doesn't knock you backwards nor do they have meat dangling from the ceilings. However, it does smell really good and has a much cleaner 20th century deli vibe. The price is also much more legit and the best part of all is the service. They make you feel welcome and greet you with a smile. Some people don't mind rude customer service if they feel it is part of the experience but in this country friendly service is not just the norm, it's also the expectation.
I was going on a fishing trip and couldn't get sausages that had to be boiled first. The gentleman behind the counter was very helpful and pointed out a few different hot dogs and brats that would work. I went with a couple pounds of brats and a pound of New York hot dogs. Everybody loved them on the fishing trip. The brats were absolutely delicious. I grilled them with some beer as I did the hot dogs. The hot dogs snapped when you bit into them and tasted amazing.
I plan on going back today and trying out some of their other sausages I couldn't take with me last time. Don't get me wrong I appreciate having two amazing sausage places in town. Stanley's is definitely a sausage mecca. However, I have to give the gold sausage to Schreiners due to their service and prices.
