| - I have visited Ramsden Park a few times in the past, either to eat a sandwich from Black Camel across the street (see my separate 5-star review), or just to sit and relax on one of the benches. But last week was the first time that I had been there for ice skating, and it was quite nice, so I returned yesterday morning for another visit.
There are two skating areas: a full ice rink used for hockey and shinny, and a smaller ice pad beside it for leisure skating. The leisure pad is rectangular, probably about 2/3 the size of the standard rink, and it seems to be well-maintained. It was still in good condition last week with about 1/2-dozen people already skating around mid-day, and again yesterday it was still solid in all places although it was just around 0C early in the morning. There is an open changing area and washrooms in the nearby building, and I think they have helmets available to borrow. Overall a nice easy-going skate, and I am sure to return in the future.
As for the rest of the park, there is also a baseball diamond and a small playground, surrounded by lots of large trees with benches and picnic tables scattered around. There is also a dog off-leash area, and I have read that the ice rink is used for tennis in the summer.
