| - First impression of this place is quite positive. The front desk staff were quite helpful with informing us, not only of their own amenities, but also of the services in the area. I had inquired about local markets and place to eat, since we had just arrived from the airport so late. Pizza Rustica is just down the street and their recommendation was a good one.
We also asked for the a crib. Not only did they bring it up very quickly, they also brought us a high-chair, which was a definite help.
We did request higher floors because we had read reviews that the lower floors, not only had terrible views, but were quite noisy. Since we were here for a conference, they said that they did not have any rooms available on the higher floors, even though we were Marriott Rewards members and booked a couple months in advance. First come, first serve, they said. Doesn't booking early count for anything? At the end of the stay, the noise wasn't too much of a problem, even with a sleeping baby. Couldn't really complain about the view either. We had a view of the main street, rather than the alley way. Anyway, to make-up for the lack of view, we went up to CN Tower.
The included breakfast and "light" social dinners on Monday through Wednesday definitely helped us save some money on meals. These amenities were definitely what made this hotel a great value, especially for a downtown hotel. The breakfasts were not anything spectacular, but I loved that I could count on them for things like eggs, some sort of breakfast meat (turkey bacon, sausuage, etc.) cereal, oatmeal, breads/muffins, small selection of fresh fruits, yogurt, juices. And, even though I don't drink coffee, there was always coffee and tea.
The dinners on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday were nothing to write home about. But, they had enough that we could call it a meal. They had things like sloppy joes, pasta, and soup/salad. Definitely helped to keep us within our budget. Because it was not every day, we did get the opportunity to sample the local cuisine too.
We also had a cleaning lady from Eritrea, Africa, who was great. She took care of enough, but didn't try to intrude. We even happened to be there one day when she came by and she was great with our baby. So friendly.
The wireless had two drawbacks in our room on the 3rd floor. First, the wireless dropped quite often on several of our devices. Second, both the wired and wireless network connections seem quite slow. It maybe that I'm unfairly comparing to the very fast connections I normally use, or that the one network connection to the outside world is shared by everyone in the building. Nevertheless, I wouldn't necessarily call it "high-speed", though I could watch some short video clips without too much issue.
Also, we didn't have a car, but all the valets on duty were always friendly and opened the door as we made our way through with a stroller. They also helped us out with scheduling a car service to head back to the airport that went well.
All in all, the hotel is a definite recommendation. As someone else mentioned, the outside doesn't look like much, but the inside has definitely seen some recent well apportioned renovations. I would come back here again.
