| - I hate to be the one to say it, but this place is super over-hyped.
First, despite having an open kitchen, the restaurant was freezing last weekend. Sure, it was only ten degrees out. But everyone in the restaurant was wearing their jackets, which is uncomfortable when you are trying to eat. Second, the service was pretty bad. Our waitress never came over to refill coffee or check on the meal. She took our orders and dropped the food off with an attitude. That was it.
So how was the food? Despite being featured on Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives, which they point out on the menu, the food was just standard diner food. I split the Egg Burrito ($8.59) and the Apple Cinnamon Hot Cakes ($6.59). The hot cakes were the very large winner with a unique and dense batter. I enjoyed the apples throughout the batter very much. The egg burrito, unfortunately, was really lackluster. It was a flour tortilla filled with sausage, potatoes, scrambled eggs, and cheddar cheese and then smothered in salsa. While it looked good in appearance, it was mostly a bunch of potatoes. I saw one piece of sausage in the whole thing. It lacked any flavor and would have really benefited from some hot sauce.
I wouldn't go out of my way to come back here, and if I was back in the neighborhood, I would rather Tom's Diner across the street. The Dor-Stop is A-OK but nothing special.
