  • We had the 2013 CES opening party in the Act on Tuesday 08.01. I was still pretty jetlagged after arriving from Europe the previous day plus had CES stuff next morning, so could stay for only about 1,5 hours. Yet, I was so impressed that came there again on my last night in Vegas on Saturday 12.01, readily paid 40 dollars cover, dragged a friend in that missed the CES event, convinced him that the club is worth 40 dollars even while he was planning to stay for just an hour, and stayed myself until 3 am. There are two main aspects that I loved about the Act. One is obviously the shows, which to my count happen every 20 minutes or so. Some are good displays of skill, some are cool otherwise like the mirror man, most are sexy, some are borderline obscene, and each is definitely weird enough so the experience is unique and nothing is forgettable. About the shows as such the other reviewers have written sufficiently, so enough on that. The second aspect about the Act that I loved, which the other reviews here do not stress enough, is its interactive and immersive nature. First, while some shows happen in front of the crowd on the main stage, many happen inside the crowd: on the small extra stage in the middle of the room, or with the utilization of both stages as parts of the act, or just in the form of a strange creature making its way through the crowd. Second, the gogo dancers do not dance separated from the crowd on special podiums, but rather dance with the crowd, encourage people to join and keep going, speak to people, overall being much more than just moving dolls as in other places. When we arrived on Saturday a little before midnight, the club was more or less full of people, but the party was not really on, gogo girls dancing in loneliness on both stages. So, yes, I understand from where those opinions come that the Act is not for dancing, that people go there just to sit and enjoy the shows. But disagree. It only means that the party there may require an occasional kick. The fact is that they do want people on stages, so it is only a question who will be the first to overcome the shyness. Then, all it takes is just a leader and two followers (search on YouTube for "how to start a movement" to see a funny video explaining the concept). On Saturday, I proudly acted myself as the party starter. Marie Antoinette type dressed dancer invited me to join her on stage saying like "it is really time to get this party going". OK, I start to move, having some dancing background hopefully do not look too ridiculous. 20 seconds of hesitation in the crowd, especially among other guys, but soon a couple joins on stage immediately reaching the critical mass of 3, and the party explodes. Main stage full of people, more on the secondary one, and whatever little floor space there is in front of the main stage is utilized as well. And this does not fade until 3am when people start to leave. Shows interrupt dancing from time to time, which however restarts immediately after. And shows are not really interruptions but an integral part of the party. That is how I see the Act, a party, not a disco, pardon an outdated word. By the way, on Tuesday CES event, a drunk Asian guy acted as a party starter. No particular skill is required for starting parties just boldness. An interesting question arises however. Does it actually have to be a guy? Anyway, I highly recommend the Act to everyone. The best nightclub I even heard of.
