Fueled by the urge to check out every coffee shop in downtown, I could not pass up the chance to spend an afternoon at The Street. What I found there? That I liked The Street. I did not love The Street.
3 stars feels like far too few, but 4 stars feels over generous. Why? Downtown Phoenix has no shortage of quirky, cute hipster coffee shops and this one just doesn't compare to some of the other options just a few miles within its radius. I will give The Street some credit for its interiors ~ a quaint house redesigned in the mold of a homey cafe. This atmosphere gives the place an inviting ambience and subtle sweetness that makes you feel more at home than at perhaps some of the neighboring hippie shops where donning a beard, flannel, and a pair of Warby's is the unspoken inclusivity fee. Nevertheless, the environment alone is not enough to make me want to stop here for expensive coffee over some of its equally overpriced competitors. It's not that the coffee is bad, just nothing special. I do like the staff I've interacted with here and I enjoyed seeing the selection of pastries, though I did not try one. I did try their Thai Iced Tea *to be different* and it was also just average. I didn't love it but I didn't hate it. Ambivalence is a menace.
