  • We were staying at a property out in Branson that was pretty nice (yay, AirBNB!) during our vacation and when we checked in, they asked if we wanted to sit through a timeshare presentation for a $75 card and a 5 day 4 night hotel stay or a $150 gift card. After talking it over some, we decided it might be an interesting fact finding mission, and they assured us that the presentation would run 1.5-2 hours and they'd have stuff for our three kids to do. We scheduled for the morning of our last day before we were leaving and showed up a little early for our scheduled time. They checked us in and didn't call us back until 20-30 minutes after our scheduled time (we were about ready to walk out the door) and then brought us to this open area full of tables and chairs. We tried to keep the kids contained (and one of the ladies came over and played with our son for a little bit), but they kept running all over the place because it was wide open. The salesman, Chandler, picked up on the fact that we weren't interested in purchasing pretty quickly and I kept on bringing up things I'd read about timeshares, waiting for him to contradict any of them. He kept on working his script, trying to get us to make an emotional purchase. After about 30-45 minutes of this (Hell), Chandler's supervisor told him to take us into one of the "closing rooms" because the kids were "disrupting other meetings". We were pretty irritated by this point, but figured it couldn't be too much longer. Come to find out that they were taking us to one of their resorts nearby to look over the property. Went and Chandler had a pretty bad attitude about us and mostly talked with the other salespeople. On the shuttle back, the four salesguys in the back of the shuttle started making inappropriate comments about the saleswoman who was about to get on the shuttle and how she could "come sit in my lap". She took it in stride, but it was pretty obvious that kind of talk was not new. We get back to their offices and we figure, this gotta be it, right? My husband was extremely frustrated by this point and just said, "no we aren't interested." Chandler brought in his supervisor and Landon comes in. We say we aren't interested. He's like, "let me show you these packages." We keep saying we aren't interested and he keeps putting on the pressure, adding more points to the offer, does the standard sales tactic of showing a much more expensive option we wouldn't need and then showing a package that would be a better fit for our family, asking "What's a family vacation you remember? What were you given for Christmas that year?" My husband tried to tell him, again, that we weren't interested and Landon literally says (two and a half hours into this experience we were told would run two hours tops), "You signed up for a presentation, so I'm just going to keep going and you need to listen." Anyway, after an excruciatingly long presentation, Landon finally gives us the paperwork for the reward and says goodbye (he was pretty rude by the end of it all when we said no AGAIN) and we got out of there as fast as we could. So, in general, just don't do it. We came away from the experience and my summary was, "for all we know, Hell is timeshare presentations." It was that bad. Especially if you have children, this is an absolutely awful idea. We should have known what we were in for when they insisted that both of us HAD to be there, that I couldn't just go by myself. Don't. Do. It.
