  • I'm a Hilton Diamond member for many years now and I typically come to Vegas 2 or 3 times a year for the last 25 years now. Having said that, the last time I stayed at the Tropicana was 15 years ago before it was bought up by the Hilton chain. I wasn't impressed with the hotel for many reasons and won't be coming back. Here are some of my issues. First. It's July and the pools are only open from 10am to 7pm. That sucks. It would be nice if they were open to at least 9 or 10pm. I mean, it's daylight until 8:30!! If you have kids like we do on this trip it's all about the pools and having such limited access really sucked. Then. The Beach cafe restaurant. The breakfast buffet is $21.95 and the service was very poor. It was 10 minutes to order our drinks (after being seated) and after that I didn't see her until she brought the $135.00 check for the breakfast for six. Not what I would expect in Vegas for $22 a head. There is so much better to be had easily. Getting drinks by the pool was impossible. I tried to flag down the one waitress serving the whole pool area and neither my wife or I were successful. So I went to the bar and ordered two drinks only to find that if you don't have ID in addition to your room cards which showed my room that they won't serve you. I purposely didn't bring any ID because they didn't ask for anything (not even room keys) at breakfast. Frustrating and inconsistent. If you have never been to Vegas and let's say, have only stayed at Hampton Inns or the equivalent then you might be pleased with this hotel. However, if you have stayed at neighboring hotels and/or come to Vegas often, this hotel is a Dinosaur. The low ceilings, small gambling area and oldish decor leave a lot to be desired. It's tolerable but it's more on par with Old downtown Vegas and doesn't compare with new strip hotels. One plus of the hotel was that the rooms were clean and the service for them was consistent and done well. Not above and beyond but as I would expect from a Hilton chain hotel. Having said that, the shower had a bunch of caulk repairs in comers and across tile that have cracked over the years. The baths need serious updating. The stay was decent and perhaps if you have kids that don't want to use the pool much and you plan on eating somewhere else all the time, your experience might be better. I picked this hotel only due to its Hilton ties and I won't make the mistake again, ever. As they say, screw me once shame on you, screw me twice then shame on me. I wish I could give a better review but my objective view and poor experience are keeping me honest. 2 stars it is. Updated: I actually wrote this review the night before we checked out. I should have waited. The checkout was a pain. The computers were down so they couldn't tell me anything and then at 12:30pm that day when they email them to me I find out that the $13/person/day is a credit you only get THAT day!! Wtf!!?? So, I had two rooms with 2 people each and should have had $26 x 2 rooms x 4 days, or $208.00 total credit. We waited until the last day and ate the $135 breakfast and then did $70 in sandwiches for lunch to find out that credit was only applied for the one day. Major BS. Nobody said if you don't use it you loose it. Never coming back even if the rooms were comped. Enjoy! (Or not)
